Dad’s! Best Gifts for your Baby’s Mama!! byMollie

27 Apr

Dear Dads of the World,

This is a polite reminder that Mother’s Day is May 13th

We all know that you know how fabulous your wife is. She is gorgeous, smart, beyond capable (can you make a sandwich while holding a baby and talking on the phone?), funny, and your best friend. That said it’s often hard to choose a gift for your BFF that shows you care, are always listening, and is appropriate to give from the kiddies (no crotchless panties for this holiday).

Lucky for you, I’ve compiled a few gift ideas for you from a world class site called ByLangley.com. I promise you she will not only LOVE any of these items, she will also LIVE in them. I also can promise to you that you will like seeing her in these pieces more than the Lululemon or ratty college tees she has been rocking around the house.

All in all, these items will make for a happy wife and a happy life!

XOXO,

Mollie

PS – We wrap everything which means one other thing off your plate.

PPS – If you have any questions, please email me directly – askMollie@bylangley.com. I’d be happy to help you find something she will just adore!

Great tee from Soft Joie that she'll wear with jeans or to lounge around the house. Also, we love pairing the ease of cotton with the lux of silk.

We love these pajamas!! The Racerback Tank is totally comfortable and kid friendly!

These pants are awesome for bedtime or as a beach bottom cover up come summer!

What a gorgeous nightie that will make her feel like the queen of the house that she is!

spring awakening byMollie

24 Apr

After a week away in gorgeous Arizona, we have returned home with sun kissed cheeks and relaxed heads. It was definitely a week away needed. The change of scenery, gorgeous brown mountains, huge night sky, stunning purple, yellow, and green desert flora blooms really was inspiring. Here are some other things I’m totally digging or experiencing that are inspiring to me!

1.) Getting Back to the Gym! After the most delicious home cooking (Thanks EJL), awesome Mexican, and amazing cocktails day and night I want to clean out my system a little. I also have not been to the gym very much in the past 10 months. I am now ready to get back to the gym, get toned, and be invigorated. It’s all about being strong this summer — mentally and physically for me and my family especially!

2.) Downton Abbey — I’m totally late to the party but am OBSESSED. If you aren’t watching this then you are missing out! I am inspired by the clothes, the hair, the setting, the characters, EVERYTHING!! Check out Tory Burch’s new Spring dresses that also seem to be inspired by D to the A!

3.) Pinterest – I am 100% obsessed. All these fabulous things to take in and be inspired by. From meals, to style, to interior design I check out my boards for inspiration for all lifestyle aspects of my world!!

4.) Tom — How lucky am I to be married to such a terrific man? This year has definitely been challenging. No one tells you how to parent together or how to keep those marriage sparks alive when you throw a new baby into the mix. Add on the pressures of being 30 something, with careers, finances, friends, interests, etc?  I am inspired by what a fabulous father and man he has become over the last 10 years of being together!

5.) babyM — I mean, how couldn’t I be inspired! She’s pretty stellar.Image

designer showcase: Gold Hawk byMollie

Effortless Style is the shared mission of both byLangley and Gold Hawk! This look is a perfect way to lounge around the house in comfort & style.

When Spring 2012 market was held in September 2011, I was still very much a babe lost in the woods. I, literally just had a babe and I had to meet with about 20 different designer’s reps in about 24 hours. It is also important for boutique owners to be on the look out for something new, different, and beautiful — which, in my bleary eyed state wasn’t so easy. So, it was actually Charles who discovered Gold Hawk and almost forcibly dragged my tired body over to their gorgeous booth where I sat in awe and wonder.

Seriously, I couldn’t have been more exhausted and would never have found this jewel box of a collection if it weren’t for C-Man. It was here that I immediately fell in lust…

The luxe lounge feel I’ve been searching for! Stunning camis and tunics in the most rich, saturated colors!  This is what byLangley is all about! Layering pieces that are soft, feminine and can be worn underneath soft sweaters or over leggings. I would crawl into this silk and never look back all weekend long!

No wonder style setters like January Jones and Elizabeth Banks were spotted in Gold Hawk!

In case you've been living under a rock.... Coral is the must have color of the spring!

With my jaw on the floor and stars in my eyes, I was further gob smacked by the dynamite designer of this fabulous collection, Michele Dahan. Like all passionate business women, Michele was hustling but in the most glamorous way. I now not only wanted to be closer to the product, but kind of wanted to be Michele! She exuded the Gold Hawk style, which, in her own words is 100% Parisian Chic mixed with a touch of California cool.

I am so psyched about this brand today and am even more energized by what we have coming in Fall — sheer edged tunics, “lipo leggings” and The. Most. Amazing. Cardis. Ever.

Here’s our interview with Michele. Special thanks to my assistant Ashley Dominick for crafting these questions! Check out her blog too if you get a chance!

Why not pair silks and sweats??

Now the backside... Gold Hawk camis come in the richest colors. Pecans, Hot Pinks, Gardenia, and Mist.

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

A: From as early as I can remember.  Just like most little girls, I was inspired by my mom’s sense of style.  Playing dress up was a runway production in which my whole family had to attend.  Looking back on this I feel sorry for my brothers who I used as collateral to extend my bedtime.

Q:  According to your website, Gold Hawk was named after an “exquisite black horse.”     Elaborate, please.

A:  Gold Hawk is named after a strong, Angelic black stallion whose metaphorical wings carry me through each season.

Q:  How does your love of old Hollywood and traveling inspire your designs?

A:  There is something to be said about Old Hollywood – Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Bridgette Bardot and the list of glamour and glitz goes on and on.  The Oscars were born here in Hollywood.  It is hard not to be influenced by all this design decadence.  This was truly an era where women understood that beauty started from within.

As a designer it is so easy to get lost in translation if you are not true to your collection.  I only design with the Gold Hawk customer in mind.  It is a delicate balance – fashion vs. function – that has taken me years to perfect.  The Gold Hawk woman is polished and well traveled and understands the beauty of our fashion philosophy.

Los Angeles is the ultimate fashion destination.  People travel to LA from all over the world to shop, and this is only part of why LA inspires me!  I embrace diversity in my day-to-day life, and it is not uncommon for several languages to be spoken at my dinner table.  I do not have to travel far from home to be inspired. Location, Location, Location!

Q:  Who is the woman that you design for?

A:  I design with the modern day female in mind.  Her style is classic, effortless and chic. My silhouettes can go from desk to night with ease.  With each coming season I add in elements of design that can be incorporated with seasons past.  Each garment can stand alone, or can be layered to create the ultimate fashion ensemble. I also believe a cardigan is every bit as sophisticated as a blazer.

Q:  Favorite piece you’ve designed?

A: It all started with the camisole 10 years ago and is still at the crux of my RTW collection today.

Q:  Thong, bikini, or boyshort?

A:  A lady never tells, but you may ask my husband.

Q: Favorite vacation spot?

A:  St. Tropez in the off-season

Q:  Your personal style is very European – so relaxed and sophisticated. How does your style influence Gold Hawk designs?

A:  It’s really hard for me to talk about myself but my publicist once said it best: “I am Parisian Chic mixed with a touch of California cool” My lifestyle directly reflects my designs.  We can just blame it on the lovely California weather.

Q: Favorite guilty pleasure?

A:  Chocolate

Q: Describe your perfect Friday night.

A:  I love to have dinner at home – sharing great food and wine with my family and close friends. I enjoy finishing off the evening with mint tea and the latest and greatest youtube video.

Q:  What sets your designs apart from other lines?

A:  My attention to detail.  Some may call it OCD; I call it my fashion responsibility!

Q: Preferred lounging attire?

A: Kaftan

Q:  What do you do just for you?

A:  Not much.  Running a home and a business as a woman comes with a lot of responsibility. I am driven by the passion and the love of what I do.

Q: What do you sleep in?

A: Gold Hawk Silk Slips. Always.

Q: Most exciting/gratifying moment of your career thus far?

A: Being able to enjoy Fashion Week in New York-Paris-Milan and working with some of the best shops around the world. I find it truly gratifying to know that my designs are recognized globally.

Q: Describe your design process.

A: I begin with the color, and I follow with the design.  From the stitch in the hemline to the button on the sleeve, every detail is accounted for in the design process.  If it’s not well engineered, it’s not a design worth unveiling.  I consider how each style falls, making sure the drape of the fabric is actually enhancing the woman’s body and allowing for small imperfections to disappear.

Q: The first word that comes to mind when you’re asked to describe your line.

A:  Refined

Q: Which designers were/are you most inspired by?

A:  Coco Chanel, Maison Martin Margelia, Lanvin, Balenciaga, and vintage Valentino

Q: Favorite shade of lipstick?

A: RED

Q: What is your regimen for keeping your skin looking fresh?

A: Hydrate-Hydrate-Hydrate

Q: Describe a typical day at work.

A:  Long, Productive and most of all: Fulfilling.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”-Coco Chanel

Mad Women byMollie

Amazing little Retro Styles You'll Sing For

Like everyone else, I too am bitten by the return of the Mad Men bug. Agreed, I should probably have written this 2 weeks ago but seriously who has time to be timely anymore!

While watching the season premier of Mad Men I, like most other Americans, became smitten by a new Mad Woman: Megan Draper. Okay, we all kind of fell head over heels when she laughed at spilled milk on the dysfunctional Draper family vacation last season but then something like a whole lifetime passed before we were re-connected with this little minx.

Yes, as she sang Zou Bisou Bisou I cringed for both Don and the more reserved side of me.  I had no real idea how much blushing would come however until the end of the episode when Megan played “house” with hot Don. Now, while I don’t know if I have that complete “role play” side of me down I did dig Madame Draper’s fabulous little knickers and bra. It got me thinking about all the incredibly cool retro pieces that have been arriving at byLangley in the past few weeks.

So, whether you’re a Joan, Betty, or a Megan I hope you find your inner Mad Woman!

Image

Nothing says sexy, 60's cool like a pair of high waisted knickers. plus this covers up any little tummy! Win Win!!

Image

I love this awesome highwaisted knicker. It's the ultimate lounge around the house bottom. More coverage than a boyshort but totally still sexy.

Image

This reminds me of what Megan or Betty would wear -- pre Don though for both!

Image

This amazing little panty in this soft blue with ivory lace bottom looks nice, but is actually kind of naughty - so Betty!

Image

What a totally cool bralet that you could wear to relax in or peeking out from your husband's button down!

This is a favorite chemise. It totally does something to take your shape from 2012 to midcentury Femme Fatal.

askMollie — What to give a New Mom For Mother’s Day?

5 Apr
Image

Yes, our model is wearing an Aden + Anais swaddle blanket as a scarf. That's how new of a mother I am -- sleep deprived but still style conscious

This question actually came from a friend here in Pittsburgh who had a baby and was looking for some wardrobing options in her new career as Stay At Home Mom (SAHM).

As you know I am home now with Noelle (who is going to be one already next month!) Can you believe it!? Anyway – here’s my ask Mollie: I have accepted the fact that after breastfeeding, I will forever have deflated, imploding boobs, but it was all worth it :) BUT, I don’t like what my SAHM wardrobe has become: old sweats and hoodies to go with the dark circles and ponytails. I would love to start replacing with pieces from your collections. I know it would make me feel better about myself to feel stylish while chasing Noelle around this house and running errands. SO…If I were to put a few items on my Mother’s Day Wish List to get started…What would Mollie suggest???

Okay, Kara is an awesome girl with tons of style, but she is definitely in the same funk so many of us know après le bebe. We are exhausted, drained, and simply deflated (both in our breasts and in our spunk) because junior, as cute as he or she may be, is taking up all of our focus.

Now, I for one am not complaining at all! I mean, I love that little nugget with Tom’s eyes and my joie de vivre but let’s face it, there are some days when Ashley (my wonderful assistant) shows up for work and I’m not 100% sure my teeth are brushed!

I have personally found that every month closer to babyM’s  1st  birthday I am getting a little more back to normal. Although that normal now looks, smells, and acts very differently than pre-babyM. In my new normal, comfort is king. That said every new mom I know, and right now I know a lot, wants to get out of the funk that Kara felt and into something that makes her feel like there’s a little sparkle left.

So, HUSBANDS + PARTNERS OF THE WORLD REJOICE! Here is a top 10 list of the perfect gifts for your gorgeous wife, aka the MOTHER of your child.

10.) A really cool hoodie – A hoodie is essential but buy her one that has a bit of style and doesn’t have a mascot on it.

9.) A “wear always” cardi –  She will wear this always. Which is why I call it that… plus, it will cover her bum which she will thank you for because she now lives in leggings.

Image

the cardi is what we're talking about here, but let's get the guys a little excited about the possibility you might be wearing it over a bralet!

8.) An amazing V-neck to show off her assets – Okay, all new moms have one thing in common. Amazing boobs. Why not show the gals off in a V-neck Tee.

7.) Sassy PJ Shorts – When all else fails, a great pair of PJ shorts make me feel like I am going to bed in style. Even if I’ve paired it with an old tank I’ve had since 2002.

encourage her away from the mesh shorts she's been eyeing in your drawer.

6.) Relaxed pants that she won’t mind answering the door wearing – For our fashion forward Mommie. These pants are the bomb. I could, and have talked about them a lot. Really, they’re on trend (prints anyone?) and have an elastic waist. I am in LOVE.

Image

These pants are my fave!

5.) Sweat Pants that will make her proud of her derriere – Yes, we all have days where we just want to crawl into our high school sweats but something inside me says, don’t give up! As much as I love being a SSA Indian, I need to grow up and so does my fleece. She’ll find as much comfort as the oldies, but these pants will do something quite magical to her ass. I promise you, every girl feels good when she knows her butt looks good.

4.) A Beautiful New Robe – Nothing makes a girl feel glamorous than a floral robe. Maybe today we’re going to move a little slower after a restless night for baby and mommie, but throw on a gorgeous robe and everything is right with the world.

Image

oh, is that spit up on my arm? why you can hardly tell thanks to this beautiful gypsy rose print!

3.) A Practical New Robe –  Some days, my only “me time” is in the shower. On those most exhaustive days, the shower somehow feels like a world class spa. So, give a robe that will keep that spa day feeling going.

2.) A Bralet so she can wear relax the girls but still keep them lifted – Okay, what the heck is a bralet you ask? My best friend – and I have boobs. Whether worn under a tee or paired with a great cami/pants sleep set, a bralet brings comfort to a whole new level. Hooray, no more floppy boobs (Disclaimer: No one likes saggy, floppy boobies. Not moms, dads, or kids. It’s just traumatizing to everyone!)

Image

A little support would be nice.

1.) New Knickers – Maybe the best gift of all. Especially, after she just kind of fell in love with the mesh panties that the hospital gave her.  What is it about those pants that make me miss them?? Everyone will be much happier in a pair of colorful, lacy knickers!!

And, bonus! For those Moms to Be! This is would be the best gift in the world to receive from your baby daddy!

BONUS — A comfortable button down night shirt to wear when she’s nursing – I just finished nursing and, as my friend Debbie said today, “You are a Free Woman!!” Yes, I am but to my friends who have just given birth or about to give birth, this is the best gift ever. You can be discreet but still feel soft and feminine just like this night shirt. PS — This is pretty much the only item I will take to the hospital for my next baby, which (don’t worry everyone) isn’t for a while.

Image

Every new mom should own this shirt - PERIOD.

behind the scenes byMollie

Maybe an entrepreneur never says something like this out loud, but there are days when I look at my business and I think,

This business is never going to work!  How are we ever going to actually take this retail concept and scale it to beyond bralets and leggings to a conversation about the way we live? Will women really get what I’m trying to do with byLangley – all day. every night?

As scary as the doubt is, even more intense are the days when I think, whoa, this thing might actually work! OMG!

Thinking about the possibility of success, I am left wide awake with delight and a bit of panic! The notion of success is far greater in size and magnitude because life as we know it would totally change:

Could Tom come work on the business full time? Where would we move our headquarters? In a year, what does our executive team actually look like?  Does success mean pushing back our family planning?

These are all questions that I must answer, which is thrilling but definitely what keeps me up at night!

My father, who is also an entrepreneur, said something to me that really stuck over a year ago when byLangley was nothing more than Trophy Wife.  He heard me say that ideas have equity. This started a bit of an intense conversation. My dad very clearly believed that ideas have no equity only action has equity.

A lot of people have ideas he said, but if you never make it happen then those ideas never have any power.

When we launched in October, friends of mine said, finally you can actually have some breathing room.  To be honest, getting the site up was the first action is equity move, but the real fun was just about to start. We now have more customers that I don’t know, walked into Fall market with a clear plan of attack, and finally have a marketing plan in place. After an incredibly stressful but amazing first six months in business, I finally feel like I’m going through the next phase – ready to tackle my next set of ideas for the business. Stay tuned… I don’t know how the hell we are making things happen but our small but incredible team is doing it!
